London is served by an excellent public transport network, although it can be crowded during the morning and evening rush hours.
The M25 motorway circles London and roads and motorways connect it with other cities. London is served by four international airports - Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and London City, all less than a one-hour drive from the city centre and easily accessible from the city centre by bus, train and car.
The famous London Underground, better known as the 'tube' may be somewhat aging but it's a national icon and makes navigating the city easy. A one-day travel card is the cheapest option and it's good for the handy network of buses that extensively cover the central area, making it easier to keep your bearings.
Trains also serve the outer suburbs with frequent departures from one of the mainline stations of Waterloo, Victoria, Paddington, Kings Cross, Charing Cross, London Bridge and Liverpool street stations, as well as service to all UK cities. Waterloo and St. Pancras stations now have Eurostar terminals that make travel to the continent easier.
Visitors to the city will likely arrive at Heathrow airport to the west or Gatwick in the south and both are busy hubs with excellent facilities and regular rail connections to the city centre. Heathrow also benefits from a station on the underground network. London City, Luton and Stansted airports receive limited budget flights with the former being conveniently close to the docklands and the latter two being an hour's train ride from the city.
