London's famous 'Theatreland' in the West End, is home to a number of venues which stage big-budget, colourful musicals and popular plays. Notable West End theatres include the Adelphi, Apollo, Haymarket and the Shaftesbury. The National and Globe theatres are popular repertory theatres, while the capital is also home to many smaller, more intimate fringe venues.
Good live music can be found at many pubs and clubs around London including the legendary Ronnie Scott's jazz club in Soho. Big names in the music world can often be found playing at venues such as the Brixton Academy, Astoria and Shepherds Bush Empire.
Entertainment is one of the key attractions of London, particularly its fabulous theatres. Most of the shows are clustered near Soho in the city's West End District such as Her Majesty's, the Haymarket, the Dominion, the Palladium, the Lyceum, Prince of Wales and Shakespeare's Globe which host musicals and both classic and new plays. but smaller fringer theatre venues are scattered about the city and their details well publicised. Last minute tickets booths are found in Leicester Square but the best deals are found on the internet. London is also a great place for live music with frequent concerts from leading bands at venues such as Earls Court and Wembley arenas, Shepherds Bush Empire, the Brixton Academy and the Kentish Town Forum.
British humour is also legendary, if somewhat bizarre at times, and an evening spent at The Comedy Club (of which there are several branches) or Jongeluers will leave you in fits of laughter.
